The CCIS Hospitality Program offers international graduate students and
visiting scholars an opportunity to develop a friendly, non-academic, and
informal relationship with a local family or individual for a one-year
period. A minimum of 4 contacts is suggested - but often times
together exceed that amount! Many long-term international friendships
have been formed through the CCIS Hospitality program!
Volunteer Host applications are accepted throughout the calendar year. Host Volunteers are required to be CCIS members and complete a host application and evaluation process. Past affiliation with Stanford University is not required. In-home meetings with internationals are appreciated, but not required.
International student/scholar applications are reviewed for matching in
the fall quarter, October–December. Sixty (60) international applicants will
be matched on a first-come basis. Students and scholars with accompanying
spouses/partners are also welcome to apply.
Like many "typical Americans" in the communities surrounding Stanford University, CCIS Hospitality Host Volunteers come from a wide range of cultures, educational backgrounds, professions, interests and talents. Some CCIS Host Volunteers were once international students themselves! By sharing the Stanford/California experience, recreational activities, entertainment, cooking/meals together, and family events and holidays — Hospitality times can be especially enriching for internationals who may never have been in the US before their arrival at Stanford University.
